Safety products run on trust. This page explains how we think about safety, what each Gentle Root product is for and what it is not for, and where to find the official guidance we follow. One rule comes before all the others: our products help, and they never replace adult supervision.
How we think about safety
- Supervision first. No product can watch your child for you. Every Gentle Root product is designed to be used with an adult nearby.
- Plain claims. We describe what a product does. We never promise to prevent every accident or injury.
- Gentle on your home. Where we can, we avoid drilling and harsh tapes, and we care about how a product comes off as much as how it goes on.
- Grown ups can always get through. Locks and gates are made to be hard for little hands and easy for adults.
- Open about testing. Testing standards, lab results and certificates for each product are [TO CONFIRM per product]. We will list them here as they become available. Until a result is published on this page, we do not claim it.
Each product, plainly
Gentle Lock
What it is for: a door top lock that helps keep young children out of the rooms you choose, such as the bathroom, the laundry room or the basement door. Adults can still open the door.
What it is not for: exterior doors or fire doors. It is not a reason to leave a child alone near hazards. Door fit: [TO CONFIRM: door thickness range and frame clearance].
Gentle BumpBuddy
What it is for: a soft cushion worn like a little backpack, behind your child's head, during the sitting, crawling and first steps stage. Age range: [TO CONFIRM with supplier].
What it is not for: it is not a helmet and not a safety device, and it does not prevent injury. Remove it for car seats, naps and sleep.
Gentle Home Kit
What it is for: corner guards, cabinet locks and outlet covers that help with the everyday spots little explorers find first. Contents and surface compatibility: [TO CONFIRM per kit].
What it is not for: it does not make a room childproof on its own. Follow the instructions for surface prep and set time, and check each piece regularly.
Gentle HushMuffs
What it is for: padded earmuffs sized for babies and toddlers that turn loud noise down at events, fireworks, sports games and other loud places. Noise rating and age range: [TO CONFIRM with supplier].
What it is not for: they are not a medical device. They reduce noise, they do not make it silent, and they do not replace limiting time near loud noise.
Gentle RinseHug
What it is for: a bath rinser that gently pours the bath water you ran over your child's hair.
What it is not for: it is not a bath seat and not a safety device. Never leave a child alone in the bath, not even for a second, and keep a hand on your baby. Charge it out of the bath, never in or near water.
Gentle HugYard
What it is for: a soft play space with a padded mat, for the time you are in the room with your child.
What it is not for: it is not for sleep. Stop using it when your child can climb out. Age range and test standard: [TO CONFIRM].
Gentle HugGate
What it is for: a pressure-mounted gate for doorways, hallways and the bottom of stairs.
What it is not for: never use a pressure-mounted gate at the top of stairs. The top of stairs needs a hardware-mounted gate that screws into the wall or banister. Stop using the gate when your child can climb over it or open it, or if it is damaged or missing parts.
Official guidance, in plain words
We follow public guidance from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Here are the basics that matter most for our products. Always read the official pages and talk with your pediatrician about your own child.
Safe sleep for babies
For babies under 12 months, the AAP recommends placing them on their back for every sleep, on a firm, flat surface with only a fitted sheet, with nothing soft in the crib, and sharing a room without sharing a bed. Products that are not made for sleep, like a playpen used for play or a head cushion, should not be used for sleep.

Gates and stairs
Pressure-mounted gates can be pushed out of place, so they belong in doorways, hallways and at the bottom of stairs. At the top of stairs, use only a gate that is mounted with hardware into the wall or banister. Check gates regularly and stop using them when your child can climb over or open them.
Furniture and TV anchoring
Tip-overs of furniture and TVs are a known danger for young children. The CPSC recommends anchoring dressers, bookcases and TVs to the wall and keeping heavy items and tempting toys off the top of furniture.
Read more: Anchor It! (CPSC).
Bath time
Young children can drown in a small amount of water, quickly and quietly. Stay within arm's reach for the whole bath, keep everything you need ready before your child gets in, and test the water temperature before they get in.

Around the home
For room by room ideas on childproofing, see the AAP's family site: Safety at Home (HealthyChildren.org).
A few simple habits
- Check the fit after you set up a product, and again every few weeks.
- Show every caregiver how each lock and gate opens.
- Keep the instructions handy for sitters and grandparents.
- Stop using a product if it is damaged, missing parts, or your child has learned to open or climb it.
- Stay close. Our products help, and they never stand in for an adult.
